Island Removals

I engaged this removalist to move cartons and some items of furniture from Hobart to Brisbane. I took the time and care to pack well, used new cartons and typed an inventory. Cartons were numbered and marked fragile etc! Upon pickup the truck was dirty and the driver (head guy was on the phone most of the time) so was not directing workers. I asked them to take care with my possessions as some were my Mother’s who now deceased. They were delivered later than they advised and boxes looked like they had been in a war zone. Obviously loaded and unloaded many times and not packed or handled with care! I sent an email asking for an explanation as I was very upset at the state of everything! I had paid deposit upon booking and balance in cash on pickup! So no comeback with holding payment back! The response I received was rude, no apology and no explanation! Here are some pics. There is probably more damage but I have not yet found out from family as I’m too upset!

**I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY** if you want service and your possessions to be delivered as you expect-in same condition as you handed over then do not use them!

Rude and unprofessional!! I’m so disappointed and distressed!

Move size: Partial Move Service cost: $1550

Moved from Melbourne to Tasmania according to an invoice for a three bedroom house quoted at $3800, subcontractor arrived with the smallest truck i've ever seen and had to place some of our belongings onto a ute. They took two weeks two bring the truck over with another severely disgruntled subcontractor and his teenage granddaughter, his truck broke down so myself and my partner did 80% of the unloading while he swore the entire time attempting to fix his truck. Spoke with Nigel who did nothing but blame his workers and took no responsibility, he also swore at us and told us to F OFF when hanging up the phone! It is now week three and they are holding the ute ransom demanding an extra $650 from us. Upon the outcome of this situation I will be pursuing matters with the Ombudsman to ensure that others do not have to go through such a stressful and abusive circumstance to what is supposed to be a new start to a beautiful new life. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS MOB!

We recently used Island Removals for our relocation from Launceston to one of the Moreton Bay Islands near Brisbane. Our experience was the opposite to the previous negative postings on this site. We found Nigel and his team to be reliable and he kept us in the loop at all times with all of our queries and communications answered in a timely manner. Nigel and his team were careful with our possessions at both the loading and unloading stage. Nigel had a deadline to connect with the pre-booked barge to our new island home and he was right in time. We obtained twelve quotes and Nigel's was significantly cheaper than any if the others. I had booked Island Removals prior to reading the poor reviews on this site and then proceeded to cancel after reading them. Nigel gave me a run down on the posted grievances and I accepted his explanations that they were problems caused by contractors that he had used in the past. He indicated that he no longer uses third party contractors and he now personally conducts the removals himself. Nigel made assurances to us and he kept his word on all accounts. I was convinced by his calm demeanour and sincerity whilst explaining the previous problems and I am very glad that I gave him a chance and that on all levels he was true to his word.
From our happy experience using Island Removals and Nigel I can highly recommend them for your move.

Move size: 2 Bedroom Home Service cost: $5000

I was called up the day before pickup was going to happen and told that he couldn't do the pickup the next day because he had missed the boat he needed to catch!? I told him this was unprofessional and I needed to get the things picked up on the day specified because I had a flight out the day after. He replied by saying “If you think it’s unprofessional try to find someone else to do it.” He then hung up on me.   Needless to say, I found another company and didn't talk to him again. This is the worst experience I've ever had with a company of any description.

Service cost: $855

So late they were packing truck in the dark. Only two movers, both small, chain smoking, abusive, foul-mouthed and left their litter everywhere. On arrival glass items intact but just about everything else damaged, all white goods damaged, most furniture corners damaged and chips out/pieces missing from other items. Furniture dirty and stained. Once he has your money he won't return your calls. The worst experience with any firm, ever. Was a nightmare from which we are still recovering.

Nigel and his team were so helpful and professional. They arrived on time and were nothing but friendly and professional. Nigel was always helpful with my questions and adding of items to my move. We moved from Hobart to Sydney. They arrived on time and all of my items were safe and nothing was damaged. They took the upmost care of my belongings and I cannot recommend them enough.They were fast in loading our furniture and a pleasure to deal with. Thanks so much Nigel and the team for all your help in our move.

Move size: 2 Bedroom Home Service cost: $3000

A company that were unprofessional on pick up, took three months to deliver through sub contractors and delivered items in severely damaged condition. No responsibility accepted for the clearly careless handling during transit e.g. Broken glass, friction and impact damage. items broken in transit( glass) was cleaned up but not advised to the client. This company should be regulated out of the industry based on their reckless and unprofessional service. Avoid at all costs, alternatively read their reviews. A real case of buyer beware - duty of care a foreign concept with these guys !
